Bahrain officials, Saudi team discuss key projects

Bahrain’s Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning officials and a delegation from the Saudi Development Fund have discussed the implementation of a number of projects supported by the fund.
 
The meeting was part of the regular follow-up to roads and construction projects funded by the Saudi Development Fund and implemented by the ministry as part of the Gulf Development Programme, said Works Affairs Undersecretary Ahmed Al Khayyat.
 
Al Khayyat expressed the ministry’s appreciation and gratitude for the efforts extended by the Saudi Development Fund to support development projects in Bahrain. 
 
The projects discussed include:
Six schools located in different governorates in Bahrain. The ministry has handed over three schools to the Ministry of Education, namely Busaiteen Intermediate School for Girls, Hunainiya Secondary School for Boys and Phase One of Isa Town Elementary School for Boys. The final procedures to hand over Hamad Town Intermediate School for Boys are presently being taken. The Malkiya Elementary/Intermediate School for Girls has also been recently completed and is planned for hand over by the end of this month. The ministry is currently working on the construction of Jaw Comprehensive School for Girls, with 28 per cent progress already achieved. 
 
Two developments being implemented for the benefit of the Ministry of Health under the programme, aided by Saudi Development Fund. The projects are: A long-stay care centre in Muharraq, for which tender bids are expected to be invited by the end of next month; and a dialysis centre in Riffa, which is under implementation with a progress of 35 per cent. 
 
A number of road projects are being implemented under the programme, including Saar Interchange Revamp Project, Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway Revamp Project and the revamp of the roads surrounding Bahrain International Airport. The meeting also discussed beautification works along the Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Highway, progress achieved in each one of the projects, the final cost for each project and the prequalification of contractors for the projects. The meeting also referred to the revamp of Al Fatih Highway, especially preliminary works that include the transfer of services on the road.  
 
The meeting shed light on the technical and practical details related to the sanitary projects funded by the Saudi Development Fund, including the progress achieved in the fourth expansion of Tubli Sewage Treatment Plant. - TradeArabia News Service
