Sharjah sets world record for largest concrete pouring

SHARJAH, May 8, 2017

Sharjah Municipality has created a new world record for the largest continuous concrete pouring at an upcoming mall in Muweilah area of the emirate, said a report.

A crew of Sharjah Municipality along with construction workers set the record pouring a total of 20,246 cu m of concrete mix over four days as part of laying the foundation for the new Safari Mall in Muweilah area in Sharjah, reported Gulf News.

Around 622 people took part in the incredible engineering feat of 62 hours, that began at 2pm on April 13, with 4,600 tonnes rebar rods used and 140 individual trucks delivering the concrete, said the report.

The Dh250-million ($68 million) project is being built by Mazaya Consulting Engineers, Oscar Construction Company Limited, Safari trading company, Conmix Limited, in addition to the engineering staff of Sharjah Municipality.

The pouring beats the previous record of 19,793 cu m concrete achieved by Gulf Asia Contracting (RP Group) for Geepas International Limited (both UAE-based) in Dubai last September, stated the report. The concrete pouring lasted 42 hours, it added.
