Italian firm wins patent for Dubai rotating tower

DUBAI, May 3, 2017

An Italy-based architecture firm Dynamic Architecture Group has secured a new patent within the GCC region for its rotating skyscraper project, said a report.

The design of the shape-changing Dynamic Tower has been patented in the region, which is amongst its top target locations for the project, stated Reuters, citing the building’s architect.

As part of the design, the 80-storey tower’s apartments would spin a full 360 degrees around a central column, which would be powered using wind turbines located between each floor, it added.

The $700 million project was originally scheduled to be built in Dubai in 2010, with a similar one also planned for Moscow, said the report.

"We have just got a patent in the GCC for the ‘building in motion’ Dynamic Tower a few weeks ago," remarked  Italian-Israeli architect David Fisher, founder of Dynamic Architecture Group, while speaking on the sidelines of the Skyscraper Summit conference in Dubai.

The architect said he was hopeful the Dubai project would be complete by 2020.
