Qatar Cool inks QIMC service agreement

DOHA, November 7, 2016

Qatar District Cooling Company (Qatar Cool) has signed a service agreement with Qatar Industrial Manufacturing Company (QIMC) for its new tower at West Bay in Doha, said a report.

The deal includes the provision for district cooling services with a capacity of 3,650 tonnes of refrigeration (TR) along with regular maintenance of onsite equipment, water pumps and other related services to cover 120,000 sq m of tower space, reported the Gulf Times.

District cooling is far superior to other conventional cooling methods as it is more efficient, economical and environmentally friendly, stated the report citing Qatar Cool CEO Yasser Salah Al Jaidah.

"The cooling energy used over the past six years has saved over 1 billion kilo watts of electricity, which translates to reducing over 600 million kg of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. This is equivalent to the environmental effect of removing 120,000 cars off the roads," he explained.

Over the past 10 years, Qatar Cool has focused its efforts on using the best district cooling technologies to cover the cooling demands in the West Bay and the Pearl-Qatar districts, where it pumps over 197,000 TR in both districts, he added.
