Interserve JV awarded Ajman mall expansion deal

DUBAI, September 20, 2016

Khansaheb, the UAE construction associate business for leading support services and construction company Interserve, has won a Dh387-million ($105.3 million) contract from regional retail and leisure pioneer Majid Al Futtaim to expand and upgrade the City Centre Ajman, a major shopping mall in the UAE.

The new contract will see Khansaheb more than double the size of the existing mall from 32,000 sq m to 70,000 sq m besides expanding a number of retails units and building a car-park to create 2,400 new parking spaces.

The work also involves the addition of new mechanical and electrical installations to serve the expanded mall, the creation of new walkways, food courts, offices and a children’s entertainment venue, according to a statement from Khansaheb.

Exterior landscaping work and the re-configuration of access roads leading to the mall will also be part of the work, it stated.

Steve Flint, the general manager of Khansaheb, said: "This contract win demonstrates Majid Al Futtaim Group’s ongoing confidence in Khansaheb’s capabilities in the retail sector as it closely follows the successful delivery of the expansion of Dubai’s premier shopping centre, Mall of the Emirates."

"The project will be delivered in a number of phases to enable the existing mall and facilities to remain fully functional and open to the public," noted Flint.

Khansaheb, he said, will work closely with Majid Al Futtaim to ensure the health and safety of the public is safeguarded at all times and to minimise any disruption to trading.

Work has started on the project and is expected to be completed by July 2018.-TradeArabia News Service
