Qatar working on $3.3bn infrastructure projects

Qatar government has allocated more than QR12 billion ($3.29 billion) to develop 29 major infrastructure projects across the country over the last two-and-half years, said a report.
Of these projects, three are coming up in the Doha Industrial Area, reported the Gulf Times, citing data from Qatar's public works authority (Ashghal).
A total of QR1.4 billion ($384 million) was earmarked for Package One of the infrastructure development work and revamp of roads in the industrial area, covering more than 4.8 million sq m of land, stated the report.
The work involves upgradation of more than 38km of roads, it added.
For Package Two of the project, which covers over 3.5 million sq m area, a sum of QR1.24 billion has been set aside. The work includes improvement of 39km of roads in the industrial area, said the report.
The works coming under package 6 of the infrastructure development in the industrial area will be carried out at an investment of QR1.24 billion ($340 million).
Ashghal is also set to begin work on the upgradation of a 21-km-road network in the industrial area, it stated.
Besides improvement of the roads, works to strengthen drainage, street lighting and installation of intelligent transportation systems will also be carried out in addition to protection, relocation and upgrading of the existing utilities, according to the report.
Other major projects include QR674 million ($185 million) worth of works being carried out in Northern Wukair, covering an area of 2.36 million sq m.
The scope of work includes the integration of roads, sewage networks, pedestrian roads, and cycle paths besides street lighting and beautification of the area, it stated.
According to Ashghal, another major work is the development of roads and other infrastructure in Rawdat Abal Heeran (Package One).
It has allocated QR547 million ($150 million) for the project which involves building of roads, sewage effluent treatment facilities, groundwater drainage facilities and development of streets in the area, said the report.
Also QR518 million ($142 million) worth of road development works will be undertaken in and around Al Mashaf on the outskirts of Al Wakra covering a total area of more than 2.09 million sq m, it added.
