Dow unveils key CSP solutions at Dubai solar expo

DUBAI, May 26, 2016

The Dow Chemical Company is showcasing its range of concentrated solar power (CSP) solutions at the ongoing Middle East & North Africa Solar Conference and Expo (Menasol) in Dubai, UAE.

A major highlight is the industry-leading Dowtherm, a heat transfer fluid which enables the capture of solar thermal energy in CSP plants, said a statement from the company.

For more than 80 years, Dowtherm A has proven to be the most thermally stable synthetic organic fluid under the sun, capable of withstanding temperatures as high as 400°C to collect, transport and store heat in CSP systems, while operating in either liquid or vapor phase, it stated.

The extreme temperature capabilities of Dowtherm enable this versatile, high purity fluid to operate for several years with excellent and consistent thermal stability, as well as improved overall fluid life, said the company in its statement.

Moreover, the low viscosity of the fluid throughout its operating temperature ensures strong system efficiency and pumpability, it added.

“We have a great story to tell about how Dow can help solve the most pressing needs related to renewable energy,” remarked Marta Gomez, Dow market segment manager.

"The strong reputation Dow has gained in sustainability combined with our existing success in delivering Dowtherm A heat transfer fluid has opened doors for us to support the rapid growth of the region’s CSP market," she stated.

Mohamed Belkheir, the fluids technical specialist at Dow, presented a technical paper at Menasol 2016 on the importance of selecting a high quality heat transfer fluid for operation in a CSP plant.

The discussion covered the basics of degradation and undesired consequences as well as provide an overview of the existing design of ullage system and limitations that it presents.-TradeArabia News Service
