MUSCAT, May 12, 2016
Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) is set to sign several deals towards building independent power projects (IPP) at Ibri and Sohar in the sultanate, a report said.
The contracts will be signed on May 15 in Muscat with a consortium of Japan’s Mitsui, Acwa Power, and Dhofar International Development and Investment Holding Company (DIDIC), added the Times of Oman report.
The project, which consists of two new natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants, will have a total installed capacity of 3,219 megawatts (MW), according to the report.
The consortium will build, own and operate both plants and sell power to OPWP under a 15-year power purchase agreement at a cost worth over RO885 million ($2.3 billion).
