Dewa awards $71m water network contract

DUBAI, January 25, 2016

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has awarded a Dh260-million ($71 million) contract to supply, lay and commission a 46-km-long water transmission network in the UAE emirate.

The project involves laying of glass reinforced epoxy (GRE) water pipes with different diameters between Dubai Academic City Road and Dubai Bypass Road and the Emirates Road, and from the Emirates Road along Jebel Ali-Al Hebab to Al Qudra Road, said a statement from Dewa.

Also, a main pipeline will be extended from Al Lussaily reservoir to the intersection of Al-Ain Road and Jebel Ali-Al Hebab, in addition to other pipelines from Mushrif Station to Al Warqa’a, and along Al Khaleej Road, it stated.

This comes as part of the utility’s strategic plan to improve the efficiency and reliability of its water network to cope with demand growth and increase water flow in Dubai, remarked Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the managing director and chief executive.

The project is aimed at providing water through gravity in emergencies to various areas, and to cater to the needs of residents of the Al Reem Area, and the future projects on both sides of Al Qudra Road, and other developments. It is due for completion in 28 months, he added.

According to him, Dewa is always seeking to raise its production and operational capacity and increase water flow to meet the increasing growth of the demand for water all over Dubai at all times to contribute to driving sustainable development.

The project, stated Al Tayer, will improve water flow to Al Warqa’a and the Palm Deira to ensure an uninterrupted water supply and the network’s water pressure network.

This will support both existing and future projects to add more flexibility to the transmission network, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
