Carillion wins $188m Dubai project contract

DUBAI, November 11, 2015

Carillion, a British multinational facilities management and construction services company, said it has won a £125 million ($188 million) contract for the second phase of the upcoming Dubai Trade Centre District (DTCD) project.

A major development, DTCD is located between the current Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre and Emirates Towers in the heart of the city’s Central Business District.

It is being designed to best-in-class quality standards by the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC).

Carillion said the contract was awarded to its 49 per cent-owned Al Futtaim Carillion (AFC) joint venture for Phase 1A5 of the giant development comprising a 178,000 sq m development besides two high-specification office buildings of eight and 12 storeys.

This phase will include international Grade A quality offices, which has achieved LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold precertification from the US Green Building Council - the industry benchmark for green building performance covering design, construction, operations and maintenance, it added.

Welcoming the project win, Carillion CEO Richard Howson, said the UAE was a core market for the company. "We are delighted to have been selected for the second phase of this major development in Dubai, where we continue to see more opportunities coming to market for which our capabilities and reputation for delivering to high standards of quality, safety and reliability are important to customers."

"We look forward to continuing our close relationship with DWTC to deliver this important development," he added.

AFC is nearing completion of the earlier phase, which was awarded in 2014. The latest project award takes the overall value of AFC's work on this site to around £200 million ($302 million), said the company.

The work on the Phase 1A5 will be completed in the third quarter of 2017, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
