Foundation stone laid for big housing project in Bahrain

MANAMA, June 16, 2015

Bahrain’s Crown Prince has laid the foundation stone of the East Sitra housing project, which will provide 5,000 housing units and various services and facilities.

It was held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad and organised by the Ministry of Housing, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

The Crown Prince highlighted that the East Sitra housing project represents a key milestone in the kingdom's commitment to increasing housing availability and meeting His Majesty's directives to build 40,000 housing units.

He also highlighted the role of the Government Action Plan, implemented by the Premier, in developing clear strategies for housing projects and ensuring efficient use of resources and expenditure, which includes the GCC Development Programme.

The Crown Prince said that generous help from the UAE had contributed to substantial development projects in the kingdom, in particular the East Sitra housing project.

Housing Minister Bassem Al Hamer said that the East Sitra housing project represents a key step in the ministry's commitment to delivering 25,000 housing units within four years.

He highlighted Bahrain's commitment to address the needs of Bahrain's citizens, which stretches back to 1963 when Isa Town was established. He noted previous developments including the development of Madinat Hamad in the 1980s and Zayed Town in the 1990s.

The ministry later distributed certificates allocating housing units to 746 applicants as part of the initial phase of the project. - TradeArabia News Service
