Saudi American Glass (SAG), a leading processor of architectural high-performance flat glass in the Middle East, has secured new projects worth more than SR70 million ($18.6 million) across Saudi Arabia, the company said.

The new projects include the Tharawat Al Mashaer Development and new commercial towers in Makkah; Dr Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Centre, Al Obeikan & Elegance Towers, Al Rajhi Hotel and General Audit Bureau headquarters in Riyadh; Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Al Khobar; a five-star hotel in Jeddah, as well as universities in Dammam, Najran, Jizan, Madinah, Hail, Tabuk and Qassim.

Over 130,000 sq m of SAG’s K-Lite high performance glass in various colours are being used in these projects. The K-Lite high performance glass offers high strength resistance against stress and wind flex, and also offers protection in the case of breakage, it said.

SAG is part of Glass and a subsidiary of Dubai Investments.

In a step that is set to further leverage its market leadership, SAG has recently finalised an agreement with the UK-based Smartglass International to become its exclusive Middle East partner for privacy switchable and electronically tintable glass. The technology allows instant privacy at the flick of a switch.

The innovative product, which is currently enhancing environments in more than 33 countries across six continents, has a huge latent demand – particularly in healthcare and hotel projects in Saudi Arabia, and will go a long way in building SAG’s market leadership, said the company.

The new glass offers privacy and freedom and eliminates the need for curtains/ blinds. It can be used in partition screens, windows, rooflights and doors, projection screens, security and teller screens.

In the recent past, the architectural high-performance flat glass market in the Middle East has grown steadily. Booming construction across the GCC is fuelling the demand for flat glass products. In particular, there is heightened demand for solar control glass and electronically-tintable glass that can block sunlight, the company said. – TradeArabia News Service
