Dow Corning technology used in Abu Dhabi tower
Dubai, September 15, 2011
A top silicone construction sealant technology from Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, was used in the construction of Abu Dhabi’s Capital Gate, the world’s most inclined tower.
“The relentless pursuit of silicon-based innovations for the construction industry enables us to provide effective solutions for projects like Capital Gate,” said Tim Efthimiady, Europe Construction commercial director, Dow Corning.
“We are committed to leveraging our 60 years of experience and knowledge of curtain wall structural glazing, building assembly and sealant systems, weather proofing solutions, and insulating glass assembly to contribute to the creation of world-class architecture.”
Approximately 12,500 triangular-shaped insulating glass units were constructed using Dow Corning 3362 silicone insulating glass sealant to form more than 720 diamond shapes on the building’s external facade.
Additionally, Dow Corning 791 silicone weather proofing sealant was used to help improve its durability and energy performance, as the sealant is designed to perform well in climates where extreme weather conditions are prevalent.
The centrepiece of the business and residential Capital Centre development features a facade constructed from 23,000 sq m of glass and steel.
The building is 35 stories high and 160 meters tall, with floor plates staggered from the tenth floor upwards to generate a profile that looks different when viewed from every direction.
The custom-made cladding system created for each floor contributes to the irregular-shaped façade. – TradeArabia News Service
