Work on key pedestrian bridge to begin soon
Manama, June 19, 2011
Work on a pedestrian bridge linking Isa Town and Zayed Town areas in Bahrain could soon go ahead in a bid to protect the lives of residents.
It is hoped the project will improve safety, especially following the introduction of the new flyover opposite the Isa Town Gate.
Area councillor Ghazi Al Hamer came up with the proposal after the death of a 13-year-old boy on Shaikh Salman Highway. The teenager died after he was hit by a Toyota car in May.
"It is our duty as councillors to ensure the safety of our residents and propose projects emphasising that," he told the Central Municipal Council's bi-weekly meeting held at the Central Municipality branch in Isa Town.
"I strongly call for everyone to support this project in the hope of protecting children and adults alike from accidents."
It is proposed the bridge starts near Gulf Air Club in Salmabad and ends just before Shaikh Salman Highway near the Isa Town Gate.-TradeArabia News Service
