Manama, March 7, 2011
Bahrain is planning to build 50,000 housing units in three years at a cost of BD2.5 billion ($6.63 billion), it was revealed.
Housing Minister Dr Majeed Al Alawi is expected to announce the details of the project at a Press conference today. It will be developed in co-operation with the private sector, Dow Jones news agency quoted the minister as saying.
The project will convert Bahrain into a “massive workshop”, he said. Approximately
45,000 applications are on the waiting list for low-medium income families, some of which date back to 1990.
Under the new project, the government will provide 20 per cent of land and allow selling the houses at cost price, the minister added, reports our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.-TradeArabia News Service
