Bahrain flyover dispute end in sight

Manama, March 22, 2010

A dispute over the stalled Isa Town flyover project in Bahrain could be resolved tomorrow.

The Urgent Matters Court yesterday adjourned the case to deliver its verdict, according to a report in our sister newspaper Gulf Daily News (GDN).

South Korean contractor Sungwon is taking the Works Ministry to court for cancelling its contract to build the BD43 million project.

It is also challenging the government's right to seize equipment at the site and a BD4 million guarantee that was deposited at HSBC bank before work started.

Last week, the court accepted BD30,000 from the company to appoint technical experts to examine the site.

Work on the flyover was supposed to finish by July, but the ministry terminated the contract claiming the firm was facing financial difficulties and would not finish on time.-TradeArabia News Service
