DIFX extends daily trading hours, adds Sundays

Dubai, November 12, 2008

The Dubai International Financial Exchange (DIFX) will add Sundays to its trading days and open earlier in the mornings, in line with other regional exchanges.

Beginning November 17, trading from Monday-Friday will begin at 10:00 UAE time (06:00 GMT), one hour and 45 minutes earlier than the current opening of 11:45 UAE time (07:45 GMT). The closing time will remain at 17:00 (13:00 GMT), said a DIFX statement.

Beginning November 23, the exchange will open on Sundays for the first time, from 10:00 UAE time (06:00 GMT) to 14:00 UAE time (10:00) GMT.

'The new timings move the DIFX closer to the trading times of other exchanges in the region. This is an important part of our commitment to facilitate access for regional investors to the opportunities on our market,' stated Jeff Singer, chief executive of the DIFX.

“The extended hours also increase the periods when international investors can access the exchange, which will support market activity on the DIFX.”

The new trading hours will extend the DIFX’s overlap with the opening times of exchanges in Asia.-TradeArabia News Service
