Mashreq launches smart payment terminals in UAE

DUBAI, June 4, 2018

Dubai-based Mashreq Bank, in collaboration with Waypoint Systems, has launched Poynt Smart Terminals in the UAE, which introduces smart payment terminals to merchants in the region.

Waypoint Systems, a company incorporated in Dubai Silicon Oasis (DSO), aims to provide improved, cost-effective and turnkey products and services in the region.

The Poynt Smart Terminal offers a range of features for retailers: it is equipped to accept a wide range of payment types including credit and gift cards; NFC such as Apple Pay, Android Pay, Samsung Pay; and QR Code based payments such as AliPay, said a statement from the bank.

The most compelling feature for retailers is the ability to seamlessly integrate the Poynt platform into their existing store architecture, customise and publish enterprise-grade apps to the Poynt App Marketplace, utilise advanced terminal and asset management tools, and leverage Poynt’s mobile form factor to accept payments anywhere, it said.

Pankaj Kundra, head of payments, Mashreq Bank, said: “We are delighted to be the first bank in the UAE to offer our clients the Poynt Smart Terminal.”

“The terminal offers our merchants an amazing combination of features and flexibility, all the while complying with the latest payment card industry (PCI) and europay mastercard visa (EMV) security standards,” he said.

Osama Bedier, chief executive officer, Poynt, said: “We are very pleased to partner with Mashreq and Waypoint to give UAE retailers, large and small, the flexibility they need to adapt and stay ahead of payment trends.”

“Our company provides them with the capabilities they need for this very global audience, including mass payment acceptance, integrated loyalty, customer feedback, and analytics capabilities,” he added.

Dayan V Ipe, chief executive officer, Waypoint Systems, said: “This couldn’t be a better partnership, thanks to the flexibility of the Poynt platform and Mashreq’s infrastructure, we will utilise our expertise in the enterprise solutions space to offer a bundled suite of software-as-a-service (SaaS) tools on the Poynt Terminal, like ERP capabilities for both small and major retailers.” – TradeArabia News Service
