MEPS launches wireless system for POS devices

AMMAN, September 26, 2016

Middle East Payment Services (MEPS), a leading payment services provider, has launched the Apex Electronic Cash Register (Apex-ECR) wireless integration system for its POS devices at various stores and retailers across Jordan.

This step was taken in line with its ongoing efforts to remain up-to-date on the latest developments in points-of-sale (POS) management technologies and in response to the Central Bank of Jordan’s (CBJ) security mandates banning merchant POS double swiping of payment cards.

Launched in collaboration with Apex Payment Services, a leading Jordanian payment software solutions provider, and Trust Smart Solutions, a major company specialized in providing Cash Register software, the new Apex-ECR system allows MEPS to eliminate the need for manual entry of sales values upon the completion of purchase transactions made through credit or debit cards.

Pioneered by MEPS in the Kingdom, the cutting-edge system automatically links the cash register to the payment device at the POS, utilizing the sales system provided by Trust Smart Solutions.

Offering the highest levels of protection and security to customers and merchants alike, MEPS’ revolutionary Apex-ECR system transmits the sales value directly to the POS, eliminating the need for the merchant to manually enter the desired value to be charged to the card, as was previously required.

This reduces the opportunity for human error during purchases, providing optimal services smoothly and quickly. The system also eliminates double swiping of credit and debit cards as per CBJ directives, offering improved security and safekeeping of cardholder data. Furthermore, the system contributes to the enhancement of the mechanism by which merchants collect data and receipts for the generation of card payment reports, enabling them to view all records through the cash register itself without having to print and collect them

“In keeping with the latest global trends, and as part of our commitment to abide by the directives of the CBJ to establish a secure and efficient national payment system, MEPS is now the first entity to implement this advanced system in Jordan,” said MEPS CEO, Khaled Zakaria.

“This step was taken to provide our customers with unprecedented services and innovative technological solutions, thereby securing the highest levels of safety and protection when making purchase transactions through different electronic payment cards.”

Ghazi Al Talleh, chairman of Apex Payment Services, said: “We are proud to partner with MEPS and to collaborate with Trust Smart Solutions on this solution, which we believe will not only improve customer security, but also provide an enhanced shopping experience.” – TradeArabia News Service
