AMPO POYAM VALVES secures valve supply contract for Indonesia’s AKM gas project

AMPO POYAM VALVES has been selected to supply 14 Through Conduit Double Expanding Gate Valves for the AKM Field Development Project in Indonesia’s Kasuri Block, West Papua, with delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The order comprises eight manually operated valves and six motor-operated units, which will be installed on the topside structures of the Asap, Merah and Kido (AMK) fields.

The project is being developed for Genting Oil, with PT. Meindo Elang Indah serving as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor. AMPO POYAM VALVES supported Meindo throughout the valve selection and design stages.

The Kasuri Block covers 3,534 square kilometres onshore the Bomberai Peninsula, adjacent to the offshore Tangguh gas field. It comprises the Asap, Merah and Kido structures, with planned gas production expected to reach 180-200 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d), while estimated field production capacity stands at 330 MMcf/d.

The first development phase will utilise 1.7 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves from the Roabiba formation, supplying gas to Indonesia’s first floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) facility. Part of the production is also earmarked for a proposed petrochemical plant in the Teluk Bintuni area, supporting the Indonesian government's plans to develop West Papua's petrochemical industry.

Valve technology and performance

The valves selected for the project are based on AMPO's Double Expanding Gate (DEG) design with threaded seats, providing Double Block and Bleed (DBB) or Double Isolation and Bleed (DIB) functionality within a single valve body.

The design uses mechanically activated, self-energising seats, allowing sealing performance independent of internal pressure. Its fully metal-to-metal construction eliminates elastomer and thermoplastic gaskets, while tungsten carbide hard-faced sealing surfaces provide resistance to high pressures and abrasive process media.

The design also prevents solid particles from becoming trapped between sealing surfaces and offers greater resistance to external loads, including pipeline bending.

All 14 valves will undergo factory acceptance testing (FAT) and tight shut-off (TSO) testing in accordance with API 6D and API 598 standards. They will also undergo bi-directional DBB and DIB-1 qualification on both seats and carry Fire Safe certification under API 6FA.

AMPO said its engineering support during the design and selection process, combined with flexibility in delivery schedules for special materials, were key factors in securing the contract.

The award further strengthens the company's presence in upstream and topside applications, where operational reliability and tight shut-off performance are critical. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
