Saudi Arabia has called for strengthening GCC integration in the housing sector and leveraging Gulf capabilities and expertise.

There is need to move beyond exchanging expertise toward greater integration of policies and systems to support the development of housing and financing solutions responsive to the needs of GCC citizens, the Saudi Minister of Municipalities and Housing Majed Al-Hogail said.

Leading Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the 24th meeting of the Committee of Ministers Responsible for Housing Affairs in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states held in Manama, he highlighted transformations in the housing sector amid changing family needs, diverse lifestyles, and differing needs across generations and geographic areas, a Saudi Press Agency (SPA) report said.

Unified Rules

The meeting discussed several issues related to developing the housing sector and strengthening joint Gulf action, including exchanging expertise and developing housing policies and practices among GCC states. These included following up on implementing the Unified Rules for Joint Property Owners in GCC States, approved by the GCC Supreme Council.

Saudi Arabia also undertook to prepare the guidelines for applying sustainability standards in housing projects, supporting the exchange of housing sustainability practices and expertise across the Gulf.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Al-Hogail participated in a ministerial dialogue session on the future of national housing, focusing on innovative policies and sustainable solutions.—TradeArabia News Service
