SLB expands real-time subsea monitoring for Equinor in North Sea

SLB has secured a contract from Equinor to expand real-time leak detection, virtual flow metering and digital production monitoring at the Johan Sverdrup Phase 3 development in Norway’s North Sea.

The award extends digital monitoring across new subsea infrastructure, including wells, pipelines, subsea templates and multiphase flowlines, as the major offshore field’s production network expands.

The contract builds on SLB’s previous deployment of its Olga Online production management system during Johan Sverdrup Phase 2.

The technology combines first-principles multiphase flow modelling with real-time analytics to provide production surveillance and support early leak detection.

Under the Phase 3 deployment, Equinor will gain expanded visibility across the production network, including information on potential leak size, location and severity.

The system is designed to help improve operational reliability, support safe operations and optimise production performance throughout the field’s operating life.

Johan Sverdrup is one of Equinor’s strategically important producing assets on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, where increasingly complex subsea networks are driving demand for digital technologies that can improve operational visibility and asset integrity.

SLB will implement the system ahead of production from the new Phase 3 facilities and will support delivery, commissioning and long-term operation.

The deployment reflects the increasing use of digital production technologies in offshore operations, particularly as operators seek to improve recovery, manage complex infrastructure and extend the efficiency of long-life assets in mature offshore regions-OGN/TradeArabia News Service
