Etihad Airways is set to unveil a new generation of its global lounge experience, beginning with a transformed lounge at London Heathrow in summer 2027 as part of a wider expansion of its premium ground offering.
The Heathrow lounge will be the first to fully introduce the
airline’s new Beyond Borders design language, establishing a new design
approach intended to create stronger visual and experiential connections
between Etihad’s lounges and aircraft.
The initiative forms part of the airline’s wider Beyond
Borders product and experience strategy, which aims to deliver greater
consistency across the customer journey.
Etihad is investing in aircraft, lounges, dining, amenities,
wellbeing, connectivity and service as part of a reported $20 billion
investment in new aircraft and customer experience, including a $1 billion
fleet retrofit programme.
The transformed London Heathrow Lounge will provide the
first complete expression of the new lounge concept.
Visitors to Etihad’s ATM stand were given an early preview
of elements planned for the new facility, including a central showpiece feature
and a new bar design.
The design concept will subsequently be extended to new
Etihad lounges across the airline’s network.
The lounges will serve as premium gateways to the Etihad
experience, reflecting the design language and hospitality principles being
introduced across the airline’s Beyond Borders products.
Each lounge will include dedicated areas for Business and
First guests, as well as private suites for passengers travelling in The
Residence.
Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad
Airways, said: “Our new lounges are an important part of the Etihad experience
and London Heathrow marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. It will be
the first lounge to bring our new design language fully to life on the ground,
creating a space that feels uniquely Etihad and distinctly connected to Abu
Dhabi.
“The thinking behind Beyond Borders is that our guests
should increasingly recognise the same Etihad identity wherever they are in
their journey. That doesn't mean every space or every aircraft needs to be
identical, but there should be a clear connection through our design,
hospitality, dining, wellbeing and service.
“London is the beginning. As we expand our lounge network,
we have an opportunity to create a more consistent premium experience on the
ground while continuing to bring the warmth and character of Abu Dhabi to our
guests around the world.”
The new design language is rooted in Abu Dhabi and draws on
the concept of “sand to superstructure”, reflecting the emirate’s natural
landscape, architecture and development. The approach was first introduced
through Etihad’s new aircraft interiors and will now extend into lounges
through shared materials, textures, lighting and distinctive design elements.
Rather than replicating identical spaces, the concept will
establish recognisable design touchpoints while allowing individual lounges to
reflect their location and purpose.
The announcement follows the world debut of Etihad’s new
A330 cabin at ATM, alongside the presentation of the Beyond Borders design on
its A321LR.
Together, the aircraft and lounge developments represent the
next stage of the airline’s effort to create a connected experience across
airports, lounges, aircraft and destinations.
London Heathrow will mark the start of the new global lounge
programme, with further developments planned as Etihad continues to expand its
network and extend the Beyond Borders experience. -TradeArabia News Service
