Asyad Shipping names two LNG vessels, expands fleet

Asyad Shipping, a subsidiary of Asyad Group, has named two new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers, Muscat LNG and Musandam LNG, marking a key expansion of Oman’s maritime fleet and strengthening its role in global energy transport.

The naming ceremony was held in Korea under the patronage of Sheikh Dr Zakariya Al Saadi, Oman’s Ambassador to South Korea, and attended by senior executives from Asyad Shipping and Oman LNG, reported Oman News Agency.

The milestone follows the recent inauguration of the oil tanker Bidbid, highlighting the rapid growth of Asyad Shipping’s fleet as it continues to invest across transport, energy and maritime services within an integrated logistics ecosystem led by Asyad Group.

The two LNG carriers were built at Hyundai Samho shipyard, incorporating advanced international standards in safety, efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Both vessels feature dual-fuel propulsion systems designed to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, alongside advanced boil-off gas management technologies that improve cargo efficiency and minimize losses.

Their addition enhances Asyad Shipping’s competitiveness in the expanding LNG transport market, driven by the global shift toward lower-carbon energy sources.

The expansion also reinforces Oman’s position as a growing regional hub in maritime logistics and energy supply chains, supported by its strategic location, modern port infrastructure and continued investment in the maritime sector.

Sheikh Al Saadi, Ambassador of Oman to Korea, stated: “The naming ceremony of the two carriers 'Muscat LNG' and 'Musandam LNG' represents the continuous growth in maritime capabilities and the energy sector in Oman. It underscores the importance of international partnerships in supporting sustainable economic development and reflects the depth of the well-established bilateral relations between Oman and Korea, which span over five decades of fruitful cooperation in various economic and strategic fields.”

Dr Ibrahim Al Nadhairi, CEO of Asyad Shipping, said: "The inauguration of 'Muscat LNG' and 'Musandam LNG' marks a new milestone in the journey of growth and expansion witnessed by Asyad Shipping, and confirms the company's commitment to enhancing Oman's position in the global maritime transport and energy sectors. These carriers will also contribute to boosting the capacity to provide reliable, efficient, and sustainable transport solutions that meet the needs of global energy markets and the growing requirements of the local and international clients."

Dr Amer Al Mataani, CEO of the Oman LNG Development Foundation, explained that this investment represents a strategic step within the efforts of Oman LNG Development Foundation to build a sustainable investment portfolio that supports vital, high-growth sectors, foremost of which are the energy, maritime services, and logistics sectors. This step confirms the Foundation's commitment to enhancing in-country value and expanding the economic impact of national investments by entering into qualitative projects that contribute to supporting energy supply chains and enhancing the competitiveness of Oman as a regional hub for logistics and energy.
