Kuwait's airport radar system, port infrastructure hit in drone attacks

Kuwait ​International Airport ​was targeted by multiple drone ⁠attacks that ​caused significant damage to ​its radar system but resulted in no casualties, the ​Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) said today (March 28), citing ‌the ⁠country's Civil Aviation Authority.

Abdullah Al Rajhi, the Spokesperson for Kuwait's Public Authority for Civil Aviation, said in a statement carried by KUNA that the attack caused significant damage to the airport’s radar system.

Emergency teams and relevant authorities immediately began handling the incident, taking necessary measures to assess the situation comprehensively, ensure operational safety and restore full readiness as soon as possible, it stated.

The authority affirmed its full commitment to continued coordination with concerned entities to take all necessary measures to maintain the safety and security of civil aviation in the State of Kuwait.

Also Kuwait's Mubarak Al Kabeer Port infrastructure came under a drone and missile attack early Friday, reported KUNA citing Kuwaiti Ministry of Public Works.

The ministry said initial reports showed that the drone and missile attack caused no casualties, but only material damage.

Also in the region, select facilities in UAE, Bahrain and Oman were targeted in Iranian attacks this weekend.

UAE authorities confirmed outbreak of a third fire in the vicinity of Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (Kezad) caused by falling debris following the successful interception of a ballistic missile by air defence systems, reported Wam.

Authorities further confirmed an additional injury as a result of the incident, to a Pakistani national, bringing the total number of injured individuals to six, with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.

Abu Dhabi Media Office stated that authorities have controlled all three fires and the cooling process is underway. 

In Bahrain, the Ministry of Interior has announced that it successfully distinguished a fire in a facility targeted by the Iranian aggression.

Meanwhile, the Oman News Agency reported that Salalah Port was targeted by two drones, resulting in a moderate injury to an expatriate worker at the port.

Also one of the cranes at the port facilities sustained limited damage, stated the report citing sources.
