BlackBerry ‘top selling smartphone in Saudi’

Riyadh, July 16, 2011

Over the past 12 months ending May, more BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphones have been sold in Saudi Arabia than any other smartphone, said a report.

The point-of-sale data, released by market research agency GfK Retail and Technology, shows a year-on-year sales growth of 112 per cent.

The BlackBerry Curve 8520 was ranked Saudi Arabia’s number one selling smartphone from July 2010 until May 2011, or eleven consecutive months, said the report.

BlackBerry was one of only two smartphones to make the top 10 smartphones list in sales, in turn taking the best selling product slot, it added.

Research In Motion, the Canadian manufacturer of BlackBerry, witnessed a year-on-year growth of 112 per cent from May 2010 to May 2011, according to the report.

“The GfK results reflect our ongoing commitment to the Saudi Arabian market,” said Sandeep Saihgal, managing director for RIM Middle East.

“We are heavily focused on providing innovative smartphone technology to our BlackBerry users, but also to developing strong relationships with local distributors, carriers and retailers in this market,” he added. – TradeArabia News Service
