Seven vie for Bilaj Al Jazayer Hotels and Residences project

MANAMA, October 11, 2023

Seven local contractors are in the fray for the main contract works package for the Bilaj Al Jazayer Hotels and Residences project in Bahrain, with Mohammed Jalal Contracting Company having emerged as the lowest bidder.

The RFP (request for proposals) tender issued by Bilaj Al Jazayer Real Estate Development had invited the tenderers to bid for construction and maintenance of the hotels and residences at the beachfront development located in the west of the kingdom.

Bilaj Al Jazayer project is a 1.3-million-sq-m mixed-use sustainable city focusing on a holistic beachfront lifestyle. It comprises resorts, residential villas and apartments, food and beverage outlets, offices, retail and entertainment establishments, and a 3-km-long beachfront on Bahrain's west coast.

The scope of work includes the construction of all building structures and all associated external works.
Mohammed Jalal Contracting Company submitted the lowest bid at BD43.645 million. Other bids were provided by Poullaides Construction Company (BD53.537 million); Almoayyed Contracting (BD57.482 million); Cebarco Bahrain (BD47.248 million); Nass Contracting Company BD51.448 million). Dadabhai Construction (BD45.551 million); and Tamcon Contracting (BD59.281 million).

In July this year, Gulf Construction had reported that Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah) - the real estate arm of Mumtalakat, the kingdom's sovereign wealth fund - had announced the start of construction work on two boutique hotels - the four-star Avani and the five-star Tivoli - within Bilaj Al Jazayer.

Edamah had stated that it has begun the BD4 million essential work programme at the Bilaj Al Jazayer development site, which comprises the first stage of the development.

Both hotels are scheduled to open in 2025.
