Urban farming projects at the hotel

Four Points by Sheraton reaches new heights in sustainability

DUBAI, July 18, 2024

Four Points by Sheraton Sheikh Zayed Road and Bur Dubai said they have achieved significant advancements in sustainability efforts with the implementation of innovative practices that significantly reduce waste, energy consumption, and carbon emissions.

Since May 2023, Four Points Sheikh Zayed Road has successfully eliminated food waste disposal in landfills by utilising a state-of-the-art food digester, and this initiative alone has reduced CO2 emissions by an impressive 60 tonnes.

Urban Farming

The hotel has also embraced urban farming with a unique 300 sqm rooftop garden which last season, produced 1,950 kg of vegetables, all of which were utilised in the hotel kitchen, ensuring fresh, sustainable, and locally sourced produce for guests, similarly cutting down emissions on importation of food.

Additionally, the hotel has replaced traditional electric calorifiers with a solar thermodynamic hot water system, providing guests with the same level of comfort while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

This eco-friendly system ensures hot water is supplied throughout the hotel in an environmentally responsible manner.

Community Initiatives

Four Points by Sheraton Bur Dubai’s key sustainability efforts are focused on community initiatives such as hosting clutter-free meetings to reduce waste, facilitating clothes donation drives to support local communities, organising biking events for charity and promoting eco-friendly transportation, and implementing special initiatives during Ramadan to support local and environmental causes.

The hotel also supports blood donation drives to help save lives, reuses linen where possible for pillow covers and towels to reduce textile waste, recycles glass and plastic bottles to minimise landfill impact and donates soap bars to non-profit organisations to support hygiene and sanitation efforts.

Energy Efficieny

Additionally, the hotel's active participation in yearly Earth Hour events underscores its commitment to a sustainable environment and culture.

In its pursuit of energy efficiency, Four Points by Sheraton Bur Dubai has upgraded various systems such as the dishwashers across the property’s kitchens and replaced the primary chiller in its building with an energy-efficient model.

The chiller upgrade has significantly reduced energy consumption and carbon impact. In the first quarter alone, this high-performance chiller saved the property 67,431 kWh, enhancing both sustainability and operational efficiency.

The hotel's new high-efficiency dishwasher marks another milestone in its sustainability journey. This model uses less water per cycle, is extremely energy-efficient, and minimises detergent usage, thereby reducing chemical waste and promoting a greener future.

Four Points by Sheraton said it is dedicated to providing exceptional guest experiences while prioritising sustainability and environmental responsibility. The efforts at Sheikh Zayed Road and Bur Dubai are part of a broader commitment to reducing environmental impact and fostering a sustainable future for guests and the community and have resulted in both properties winning awards.
