UAE plans to issue entry visas for transit passengers
DUBAI, April 16, 2018
Stopover passengers travelling through any of the UAE's airports will soon be able to enjoy a day out in the city as the Cabinet considers the issuing of a transit visa, said a report.
According to a report in WAM, the move is a part of a broader plan to encourage transit passengers to stay in the country longer and visit its landmarks.
The Cabinet has approved the formation of a working group, led by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, to prepare the new policy for transit visas.
Over 70 per cent of the total passengers who passed through the UAE's airports in 2017 were transit passengers and an enhanced entry-visa system would have a huge potential to benefit local tourism and economy, the report said.
The new policy will list visa fees, mechanisms for increasing the number of stopover visitors, as well as ways to promote the country's tourist attractions.
