Al Marjan bids for Guinness fireworks record

RAS AL-KHAIMAH, December 21, 2017

The 2018 Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Fireworks by Al Marjan Island, one of the largest fireworks in the UAE, will be attempting the Guinness World Records title for the ‘largest aerial firework shell.’

One of the largest and most-awaited fireworks displays in the UAE is set to be a show-stopping global attraction with resplendent colours to illuminate the night sky over the waterfront development with fireworks from 120 sites, creating a spectacular canopy never seen before.

Al Marjan Island has joined hands with Ras Al Khaimah’s government entities including Ras Al Khaimah Public Works to create two new public view areas and more than 5,000 additional public car parking spaces around Al Marjan Island to welcome the visitors.

Focused on ensuring the highest standards of safety, the event is set to welcome thousands of visitors to watch the UAE’s most spectacular New Year’s Eve fireworks. A team of 30 engineers, pyrotechnicians, fabricators and others are working on the project led by Phil Grucci, creative director of Fireworks by Grucci.

Abdullah Al Abdooli, managing director of Al Marjan Island, said: “This year, we are creating a dynamic new experience that will add to the pride of Ras Al Khaimah and our nation through a spectacular firework display. As an official GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title attempt, we are working with the concerned government authorities to organise the event seamlessly and to the highest standards of safety.

“We aim to provide our guests a memorable and never-before night. With 120 sites for the fireworks, the display will be like nothing previously witnessed. Aiming to achieve a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the ‘Largest aerial firework shell,’ we hope to add to the impressive achievements of our nation, and to further highlight Ras Al Khaimah as a must-visit destination this New Year’s Eve.”

The 2018 Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Fireworks by Al Marjan Island will run along the entire shoreline of the mega-waterfront development. For the visitors of Ras Al Khaimah and guests at the five-star hotels including Rixos, Double Tree by Hilton, Bab Al Bahr, Marjan Spa and Resorts as well as Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah, and Hilton Beach Club Al Hamra.

Al Marjan Island authorities have urged the public to abide by Ras Al Khaimah Police traffic regulations as well as the on-site arrangements regarding viewing the fireworks for their safety and convenience. Yachting enthusiasts can watch the fireworks from the sea provided they secure permits from 8pm on December 31, 2017, and abide by the regulations.

Visitors can reach the site before 8pm to secure comfortable public viewing areas, which will be located on and around Al Marjan Island. Access to the viewing decks and to the main entrance of Al Marjan Island will be closed at 10pm.

Visitors can also take part in the 2018 Ras Al Khaimah New Year’s Eve Photo Competition, which opens on December 31, 2017, and closes on January 1, 2018. Submit photographs on Al Marjan Island’s social media platforms with the hashtag #RAKNYE, a statement said.

The top three winners will be selected by an expert jury in two categories: Social pictures that depict people celebrating the fireworks and two, visuals of the fireworks. In addition to a cash prize of Dh10,000 ($2,722), the first prize winners will be rewarded with a family stay at Rixos Hotel.- TradeArabia News Service
