Dubai airport scheme turns smartphone into passport
DUBAI, June 8, 2017
Dubai International Airport has launched a new hi-tech scheme enabling passengers to use their smart phones instead of their passports at the smart gates, said a report.
The 'Emirates Smart Wallet' is meant to further streamline travel movement across Dubai International Airport, and is considered the first of its kind in the world, said a report in WAM.
The scheme was launched at the airport's Terminal 3 by Lt General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, deputy chairman of police and public security in Dubai and Major-General Mohammad Ahmad Al Merri, director-general of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai).
The first phase of the scheme incorporates traveller personal data, Emirates ID and passport information as well as the e-gate card data, the report said.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple store.
