Luxury residential and hospitality property developer Seven Tides has installed Tesla Destination Charging connectors at three of its Dubai properties – Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort and Dukes Dubai on Palm Jumeirah and at the Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate.

Located at the entrance of each hotel, the two Tesla charging stations offer ease and convenience for Tesla-driving residents and guests, who can simply pull up and plug in, adding up to 90km per hour range to the battery.

Abdulla bin Sulayem, CEO of Seven Tides, said: “Sustainability is integral to every area of our organisation. We want to reduce our carbon footprint and help others to do the same. So to promote a more environmentally-friendly lifestyle and transition to alternate transport solutions, we are happy to offer these charging stations across our properties for free.”

Seven Tides will be showcasing this and other sustainable initiatives at this year’s Arabian Travel Market (April 24–27 at Dubai World Trade Centre) from their stand: HC0270.

The chargers will help reach the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050, to make Dubai a global centre of clean energy and a more sustainable economy by providing 7 per cent of the emirate’s total energy output from clean resources by 2020, 25 per cent by 2030 and 75 per cent by 2050.

The Destination Charger is a type 2 charging unit, which can charge vehicles from a range of 7-22 kW, with the average charge time between 3-4 hours depending on the battery level.

The UAE is focusing heavily on increasing the number of electric-powered cars on the road and there are currently more than 25 Destination Charger locations in the UAE, 18 in Dubai, six in Abu Dhabi and one in Ras al Khaimah.

Last year, it was announced up to 10 per cent of new vehicles purchased by government bodies with huge transportation fleets will be electric and hybrid cars. The move is part of the Dubai Green Mobility Initiative, with 100 charging stations already installed across the emirate since 2015.

Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) has already added 13 electric vehicles to its fleet in 2015-2016 and have installed 100 stations in Dubai. While Tesla signed a deal with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority earlier this year for 200 electric vehicles.
Elon Musk, co-founder and CEO of the California-based auto manufacturer, has previously announced in Dubai that his game-changing vehicles would enter the UAE market this summer and will be supported by a new service centre under construction in Dubai and another in Abu Dhabi in 2018.

Other Seven Tides green initiatives include replacing all light bulbs in its property portfolio with LED lights; the development of solar power systems for future implementation; and an ongoing project to use building waste as fertiliser. Seven Tides also supports the government’s Green Economy for Sustainable Development and Smart City initiatives, which form part of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s long-term vision to transform Dubai into a 100 per cent smart city. - TradeArabia News Service
