Fujairah beaches cleared of oil slick

FUJAIRAH, March 16, 2017

An oil spill along the coast of Fujairah has been cleared up by the Dibba Municipality and teams from various hotels across the coast.

Beaches were cordoned off earlier this week as they were unsafe for guest access.

The oil spill was spotted on Monday, off the coast of the Al Aqah area of Dibba, affecting several hotels, including Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort.

“We immediately informed the relevant government authorities, and Dibba Municipality acted very swiftly by sending a large number of staff to help our team members with the clean-up.  The team  worked tirelessly through the day to ensure the sand and shores were clear, and again early the next morning to clear up any overnight oil remains,” said Patrick Antaki, complex general manager for Le Méridien Al Aqah Beach Resort and Al Maha, a Luxury Collection Desert Resort & Spa.

“We haven’t seen an oil spill of this size in several years, it was quickly managed and cleared with the support of the authorities and some local residents.  I am also incredibly proud of our amazing team, who did everything to block the spill from spreading to other parts of the beach. Our team and municipality workers were all hands on deck to ensure the oil slicks were cleared as soon as possible.” - TradeArabia News Service
