Work on the Abu Dhabi International Airport road project is progressing well with 57 per cent of the upgradednetwork and interchange already completed, said a report, citing the Abu Dhabi General Services Company, Musanada.

The Dh677-million ($184 million) project involves the construction of the interchange to Abu Dhabi International Airport through four bridges, the construction of an underpass leading to Yas Island, and an overpass connecting Yas Island and Airport City A, reported the state news agency Wam.

The project is aimed at delivering strategic projects and achieve the objectives of Abu Dhabi Plan, to enhance the quality of infrastructure and support the economic development of Abu Dhabi and the overall development process in the UAE, it said.

The scope of work includes widening of the (E10) road from the existing 4 lanes to 5 lanes in both directions to a total length of 8km, the construction of a secondary 3.7km 3-lanes road network between Interchange No.6 and (E12) road that will connect the Yas Island underpass to the (E10) road.

In addition, the road between (E10) and the presidential flight building will be widened from 2 lanes to dual 3 lanes in both directions in addition to the construction of a bridge that will serve the presidential flight and Masdar City, it stated.

The project, currently being executed in cooperation between Musanada and Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport, aims to connect the new terminal of Abu Dhabi international airport to the (E10) highway, providing a direct access towards Abu Dhabi and Dubai as well as widening Abu Dhabi – Shahama Road (E10) from four to five lanes in both directions and widening the Presidential Flight road to three lanes in both directions, said the report.

A storm water pumping station with the associated storm water drainage network will also be constructed to serve the E12/E10 interchange, it added.
