Shangri-La Dubai undergoes $19m refurbishment

DUBAI, September 18, 2016

Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai has embarked on a journey of transformation in an exciting Dh70 million ($19.05 million) renovation across its 302 guest rooms and public areas – including the hotel’s impressive, atrium-style lobby and Lobby Lounge and Dunes Café.

On schedule to be completed by October this year, the remodelling will be reflective of a contemporary haven of elegance that blends modern Arabia with Shangri-La’s legendary hospitality in the heart of Dubai.

Enjoying views of the shimmering city and Arabian Sea, the hotel is minutes from the international airport, Dubai’s Convention Centre and Financial Centre, as well as Downtown Dubai and Burj Khalifa. As the renovation takes shape, the property will continue to operate and ensure the guest experience remains seamless in the landmark hotel that will feature an entirely new and invigorated visitor experience for business travellers and city explorers – reimagined by international interior designers, Hirsch Bedner Associates.

Relaxing rooms refreshed

Guest wellbeing and relaxation is an essential quality of the Shangri-La experience, which is why the guest rooms are being reappointed with both style and comfort in mind.  Combining the warmth of Asian-influenced wooden fixtures and fittings with white, blush and pastel blue soft furnishings, the rooms will provide a calming, contemporary retreat at the end of a busy day.  Each room is situated on the highest floors of the hotel affording inspiring views across the sea, city and far beyond.  For a heightened level of luxury, Horizon Club rooms feature Club Lounge access, large picture windows and exclusive leisure facilities on Level 42.

Complimentary wi-fi is available throughout the hotel and each guest room will be equipped with state-of-the-art Bluetooth technology to truly personalise the stay experience.  Guests can synchronise their mobile devices with the media hub panel to play their favourite music, charge devices and view photos of their adventures on the flat-screen in-room TV.

Awakening a new sense of place

A sincere and stylish welcome awaits at the hotel’s light and spacious lobby and Lobby Lounge.  Check into a world of sleek chic, surrounded by sweeping curves, clean lines, contemporary art and warming neutral tones. Flashes of gold and ruby red detailing reflect the jewels of traditional Arabian souks. Imposing glass and gold chandeliers suspend majestically from the ceiling above the Lobby Lounge, casting shimmers of light upon the blue tiger’s-eye stone table tops. Step across the plush hand-tufted carpets before sinking into a luxuriously embroidered armchair for the city’s finest Asian-inspired afternoon tea. Guests will be able to delight in delectable sweets and savoury treats, as well as a whole range of speciality teas from Asia.

Delectable Social Dining

Dunes Café is an international dining restaurant that features best-in-class culinary stations. A place to meet with friends, colleagues or family for social gatherings, its fresh new look will entail bronze patterned walls inspired by marine-life from the Arabian Sea, mixed with mood-enhancing vibrant yellows and uplifting tones of blue. The restaurant is flooded with natural sunlight during the day for an invigorating breakfast or healthy lunch, while adaptable mood lighting sets the scene for a relaxed vibe by night at the restaurant’s exciting theme nights.

The hotel’s additional dining options make for an enticing culinary experience. With ‘hospitality from the heart’ at its core, Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai presents a unique, authentic Vietnamese fine-dining restaurant, Hoi An, showcasing the delicate flavours and colourful culinary scene of South East Asia. Shangri-La’s signature Chinese fine dining restaurant, Shang Palace, captivates guests with its range of gastronomic provincial specialities, while the rooftop poolside lounge and bar, ikandy, hosts an impressive line-up of local DJs throughout the season and boasts some of the best cocktails in the city. - TradeArabia News Service
