Dubai International...recognised for environmental responsibility

Dubai International, DWC achieve top accreditation

DUBAI, February 17, 2016

Dubai International Airport and Dubai World Central (DWC) have become the first airports in the GCC states to achieve Level 2 accreditation from the Airports Council International’s (ACI) Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme.

With Level 2 achieved, Dubai International and DWC are now in the list of 14 Level 2 accredited airports, representing more than 10 per cent of the air passenger traffic in the Asia Pacific Region. The completion of the second stage of ACI’s four-stage programme, is in line with Dubai Airports’ commitment to sustainable growth and support for the aviation industry’s global initiatives for a carbon-neutral future for the world’s airports.

Describing the achievement as an important step in the company’s journey and the ultimate goal of attaining carbon-neutral growth, Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports said, “We take our environmental responsibility seriously and, through our environmental management plan, continue to implement efficiencies and pursue innovative ideas to limit our environmental impact while fully supporting the UAE Vision 2021.”

Patti Chau, ACI Asia-Pacific regional director said: “I wish to congratulate Dubai International and Dubai World Central in becoming the first airports in the GCC states to attain Airport Carbon Accreditation Reduction Level. The accreditation demonstrates Dubai Airports’ strong commitment towards developing a sustainable future for its airports. We applaud Dubai Airports for their achievement and look forward to seeing the two airports reaching carbon neutrality in the near future.”

Dubai Airports contributes to the development of programmes and policies to promote sustainability across the UAE by participating in key environmental committees and working closely with stakeholders as well as federal and local government bodies.

The Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme is the only independently administered, institutionally endorsed carbon management certification standard for airports. It certifies airports at four different levels of accreditation including mapping, reduction, optimisation and neutrality, and has already won praise from the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the United Nation Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Commission (EC). – TradeArabia News Service
