MANAMA, February 15, 2016
ART Rotana Amwaj Islands, the luxury resort located in Amwaj, Bahrain, is supporting kite surfer and world record holder Anke Brandt as she attempts to break her 2014 record come spring this year.
ART Rotana will provide the training facilities and facilitate the accommodation needs for Brandt and her team as they prepare to take on this new challenge.
In 2014, Bahrain resident Anke Brandt, kite surfed 250 km non-stop around the kingdom in a 12 hour mission that gained her international recognition and secured her a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. In spring this year, Anke will attempt to break her previous record by sailing from Bahrain to the UAE in 20 hours or less.
“We as a brand are always keen to back ambitious athletes or initiatives that promote the country’s sporting scene and have the potential to place the country on the world map, such as our on-going partnership with Melissa Reid, our golf ambassador who has deepened our brand connection with a wide global audience that extends beyond the world of golf,” said Patrice Cornee, resident manager from ART Rotana. “Sport is an art in its own respect and here at ART Rotana we encourage art in all its various shapes and forms”.
German kite surfer Brandt, born in Munich and raised in Berlin, discovered her passion for kitesurfing in Bahrain, where she has been living and working in for the past four years. With a passion for sports, Brandt has been training hard for the 250 km on open seas, working-out for up to 15 hours a week.
Commenting on this partnership, she said: “I am very excited to be attempting this mission and I am thankful to ART Rotana for their genuine support; the hotel facilities are very suitable for my type of training and helping me prepare for this challenge.” – TradeArabia News Service
