Jordan's QAIA... solid growth
Jordan airport sees record passenger traffic
AMMAN, October 3, 2015
Jordan's Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) has registered solid growth in its year-on-year passenger traffic during August compared to the same period last year, said its operator.
AIG, the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of the airport, said for the second consecutive month, it has witnessed a jump in passenger traffic clocking over 4.8 million passengers since the beginning of 2015.
Also the year-to-date (YTD) cargo traffic statistics recorded a notable 8.4 per cent rise, said the data released by AIG.
In addition to the Jordanian airport’s growing network of airlines, the increase in statistics is largely attributed to leisure and expat travels during the high summer season.
During August, QAIA welcomed 830,001 passengers compared to 785,685, noting a significant 5.6 per cent increase in comparison to the same period last year. It also registered 7,168 aircraft movements (ACM) as opposed to 7,242 ACM, which indicated a one per cent year-on-year decline.
According to AIG, the airport had handled 8,445 ton of cargo during the period compared to 7,627 ton in 2014, thus registering a 10.72 per cent rise.
Similarly, the YTD cargo traffic figures increased by 8.4 per cent to reach 65,251 ton as opposed to the same period during 2014.
Commenting on the traffic growth, AIG chief executive Kjeld Binger, said: "We’re delighted to have achieved a new milestone with QAIA registering the highest August passenger traffic in the airport’s history. This unprecedented success was mainly led by the expansion of QAIA’s network, as well as an increase in passenger traffic to and from the Gulf, Turkish, Libya, Iraqi and European countries markets."
"On that note, we eagerly look forward to setting new milestones and exceeding benchmarks at QAIA," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
