Marking international Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, both Ajman Palace Hotel and Coral Beach Resort Sharjah have joined Pink Caravan - a pan-UAE breast cancer initiative by Friends of Cancer Patients - to support the cause.

Making the announcement on behalf of both hotels, general manager Ferghal Purcell said: "We are delighted to support Pink Caravan Breast Cancer Initiative. The organisation has been playing an instrumental role in the UAE in the fight against breast cancer. Awareness of the disease and the need for early diagnosis play a key role in improving survival rates. To help raise funds for the cause we will be placing special donation boxes at the reception areas of both our hotels from October 1 to 31 to allow guests to contribute to the charity. In addition, all staff at our hotels will be wearing pink ribbons throughout the month.  Pink ribbons will also be distributed among our guests along with flyers during this period."

Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, director general of Friends of Cancer Patients and head of the Medical and Awareness Committee of Pink Caravan, said: "The Pink Caravan functions under the umbrella of the 'KASHF' Programme, which provides information and guidance to facilitate the early detection of many types of cancers. Pink Caravan, KASHF's flagship initiative focuses on raising awareness and education around breast cancer detection and offers high quality free breast cancer screening across the UAE. Pink Caravan’s vision in the near future is to give free breast cancer screenings throughout the year, via a mobile mammography unit, CareVan."

The Pink Caravan was launched under the directives of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, Founder and Royal Patron of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society (FoCP), International Ambassador of the World Cancer Declaration for Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), and International Ambassador for Childhood Cancer for UICC. – TradeArabia News Service
