Air transport pact key to GCC-EU dialogue
DUBAI, May 23, 2015
The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) said it was ready to ink a comprehensive agreement with the European Union based on liberated skies and also discuss all other items within this framework, said a report.
A comprehensive air transport agreement is necessary to carry forward the GCC-EU dialogue, reported the Emirati news agency Wam citing a senior UAE GCAA official.
"The UAE, along with GCC States, has been committed to the ongoing dialogue with the European Commission," said Laila Hareb, the assistant director-general for strategy and international affairs at UAE GCAA, who was in Doha to attend the third round of GCC-EU Aviation Dialogue.
Hareb led a high-level UAE delegation to the two-day meeting, which was attended by 23 officials from GCC member countries and 17 officials from the European Commission and EU member states,.
The GCC-EU officials held extensive talks which resulted in beneficial and mutually satisfactory results, the report added.
"This GCC-EU round resulted in the discussion of several issues relating to safety and aviation security, air navigation, and training in the Arab Gulf Region and Europe," said Hareb.
The two sides will be holding the fourth round of GCC-EU Aviation Dialogue by the end of this year in an EU country, the report added.
