Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) in Amman, Jordan, said it has registered a 9.5 per cent growth in passenger traffic in September which soared to a record 614,336 from 561,205 passengers last year.
The airport witnessed steady growth in passenger traffic and aircraft movements for the ninth consecutive month this year, stated Airport International Group (AIG), the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of the airport.
Since the beginning of 2014 and up until September, the year-to-date passenger numbers soared to 5.55 million, up 11.8 per cent over 4.96 million last year.
The aircraft movements rose by 12.8 per cent to hit 6,395 compared to 5,669 during September 2013.
Commenting on the growth, CEO Kjeld Binger, said: "The Hajj season, which occurred during September, in addition to leisure and expat travel to and from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Baghdad, Kuwait and Abu Dhabi were the main contributors to this month’s results."
"Overall, QAIA has been experiencing robust traffic with monthly growth in statistics since the beginning of 2014. As such, we look forward to what the remainder of the year will bring," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
