Hilton Abu Dhabi begins beach reclamation project
Abu Dhabi, July 21, 2014
Hilton Abu Dhabi, an Abu Dhabi National Hotel property, has launched an eco-friendly beach reclamation project, which will restore and extend the hotel’s Hiltonia Beach Club beachfron on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The Hiltonia Beach Club guests will be able to enjoy the full set of facilities, which will include restaurants, pools, spa and gym, as the coastal eco-project will be staged in two phases to allow beach access throughout, said a statement.
Smart marine experts will create the extended beachfront with the production of an underwater sea wall.
The submerged and discreet structure will be formed using custom-designed sand filled geo textile tubes, which have been eco-engineered to replicate natural environments for local marine life to inhabit. In addition, the sea wall, which mimics a natural fringing reef, will allow waves to break offshore to protect the beachfront from erosion.
Daniel Chamberlain, director of sports and leisure, said: “As an internationally recognised Blue Flag standard beach and the region’s most eco-friendly Hilton Worldwide hotel, sustainability is at the core of everything we do. We have taken major steps to ensure that this reclamation project protects and preserves our marine environment, while also enhancing the guest experience.
“Hiltonia Beach Club has been a hugely popular asset for hotel guests as well as residents of Abu Dhabi for a number of years and we were keen to make sure that any extension to our resources complied with the hotel’s high environmental standards.”
“Once the project is complete, members and guests will be able to enjoy and relax on a 360 m length of beach front which will include a special, supervised play area designated for children, where they can enjoy building sand castles,” he added.
The club has extended a special annual membership offer valid from until September, for anyone purchasing a full annual membership package, to mark the project launch. - TradeArabia News Service
