Al Ain Wildlife Park backs green tourism summit

Abu Dhabi, April 27, 2010

Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort (AWPR) has become the first gold sponsor of World Green Tourism, an event presented by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA).

The international event, with a conference and supporting exhibition, will be a forum for key tourism industry leaders from around the world to discuss the environmental challenges facing the industry and their commercial impact.

To be held next December at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, the three-day event is being organised by the UAE’s Streamline Marketing Group with ADTA as headline sponsor.

Work is already underway to transform the area on the outskirts of Al Ain city into a multibillion-dirham resort that will include luxury lodges, a 5-star, 200-room hotel and over 1,000 villas. Split into 3 zones, the 900 hectare project will allow visitors and guests to experience Arabian, North American and north Kenyan wildlife in a natural setting.

Visitors will be able to learn about more than 180 species of animals, 30 per cent of which are considered endangered. Species under conservation action at AWPR include the Arabian Oryx, Scimitar-horned oryx, addax, Dhama and Mhorr gazelles, Arabian leopard, Sand cat, and African lion.

“The Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort is creating a sustainable destination that aims to be an internationally renowned centre of excellence for wildlife and nature conservation, as well as eco-friendly living and learning,” said Dr Frederic Launay, chief of AWPR.

“World Green Tourism Abu Dhabi brings together destinations, suppliers, advocates, and global leaders into one forum,” he added.-TradeArabia News Service
