Sitra beach resort set to reopen

Manama, March 29, 2010

A beach resort off the Sitra coast will reopen on Thursday following a BD50,000 renovation, it has been announced.

The beach resort at Al Dar Islands will also feature several new facilities, said Rashid Investment Holdings project manager Simon Smugg.

'One of the major new steps that we have taken is to limit the number of visitors to 150 every day,' he said during a tour at the facility.

'We are also shortly starting construction of a new wing at the islands, which will consist of several chalets and other facilities to attract tourists.

'The new facilities will take a year to complete.'

Smugg was joined during the tour by promoters Al Rashid Group chairwoman Shaikha Hind bint Salman Al Khalifa and director Shaikh Hassan bin Rashid Al Khalifa.

He said that renovation was carried out in the last three months.

'We have been busy in the winter to get the place in top condition,' said Smugg. 'For those who have been here before, the first things that will grab their attention are the whitewashed walls and the revamped reception with an automatic gate.

'The front main beach area has been extended and six shaded double beds have been set up on the water's edge that can be hired for the day.'

He said that the stage area provided an elevated view from the beach, housing high tables and chairs.

'A new shower block has been built with changing rooms and outdoor showers, while the back area of the beach has a huge area for beach volleyball and children's play area,' said Smugg.

He said that the new Al Dar policy to limit its customers to 150 per day aimed at giving a better level of service in a relaxed roomy environment.

'This being the case at the weekends, one will have to arrive early as it is a first come first serve basis,' the project manager said.

He said another added benefit was that the island would be open until 11pm on Thursdays and Fridays.

'Jet skis and a banana boat are being added, with fishing and pearl diving trips already in full swing,' he added.

He said for BD10 per person, visitors get a return sea taxi ride, entry to the island and a sun lounger.

'The sea taxi runs when needed,' added Smugg.-TradeArabia News Service
