Samsung unveils new OS Tizen on its SUHD TVs
DUBAI, June 18, 2015
Samsung has unveiled its new proprietary operating system ‘Tizen,’ an open-source software that the company is developing to support and connect its various products.
Called ‘The OS of Everything,’ the Tizen was installed on wearable devices the Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo and the Gear S, as well as the NX300, the NX mini and NX1 Cameras, last year.
This year, it has become the operating system on Samsung’s entire line of smart TVs - bringing to live Samsung’s vision of a connected world, said a statement.
Tizen is faster and more intuitive than the previous Smart TV OS. This is a must for the SUHD TV, which loads four screens at once so that users can multitask across broadcast, the web and built-in apps.
It also responds faster to Samsung’s four-direction remote control. No matter what content one has tuned into on their smart TV, the Smart Hub interface remembers that last thing that was watched, and pulls it up immediately with Tizen.
The OS also supports additional entertainment options by tailoring content recommendations directly to its user.
With Samsung’s smart TVs now leveraging Tizen, the OS gives consumers easy access to content across devices.
The content from any Bluetooth-enabled device (Bluetooth Low Energy) can be accessed directly on to the TV with just one click through the Quick Connect feature.
Tizen even transfers live broadcasts or recorded programmes from the TV to the mobile device whether or not the TV is turned on. And the platform continues to support the streaming of UHD movies and TV shows from leading providers such as OSN and MBC.
The viewers who need a tool to handle busy schedules will now have access to ‘Briefing on TV,’ a morning alarm that syncs with Samsung mobile devices to turn on your Samsung Smart TV, display the current time, weather and personal schedule.
The platform is open-source, a feature that makes future development of the platform much easier for independent developers. Already equipped with gaming, entertainment and infotainment apps from around the world, the Samsung SUHD TV delivers a wide range of content—but Tizen leaves the door open for even more. - TradeArabia News Service
