Gemfields, Georg Jensen partner on new collection

DUBAI, June 18, 2015

Gemfields, a leading supplier of responsibly sourced coloured gemstones, has signed partnership with Danish design house Georg Jensen on a collection featuring Gemfields’ Mozambican rubies and Zambian emeralds.

Known for its alliances with the most dynamic international jewellery designers, Gemfields sought the ideal partner to reveal a cache of exquisite Mozambican rubies from its recently discovered mine in Montepuez.

There is tremendous industry anticipation for these rubies, given their exceptional quality and colour and because of previous supply restrictions elsewhere in the market, said a statement.

Gemfields found the perfect fit in Georg Jensen, a company whose modern, minimalist designs provide the perfect canvas for incorporating coloured gemstones.

Vivianna Torun, designer of some of Georg Jensen’s most iconic jewellery pieces, provided inspiration for the first Gemfields collaboration.

Standouts in the collection are the Runa Necklaces, the first high-jewellery pieces created by the house, which feature a cascade of generously sized emerald gemstones set in brilliant yellow gold.

Also included in the collection is a reincarnation of Torun’s historic Dew Drop necklace and matching earrings reimagined in rose gold with Gemfields Mozambican rubies.

From the Dune collection, Georg Jensen is offering a sculpted bangle and ring crafted in rose gold and accented with Gemfields’ rubies.

The fresh, sophisticated designs showcase the versatility of Gemfields’ gemstones and represent an exciting direction for both brands.

Ian Harebottle, chief executive officer, Gemfields, said: “It’s exciting for Gemfields to continue our spirit of collaboration with a brand like Georg Jensen, which approaches fine jewellery from an innovative design perspective.

“We especially look forward to seeing our new Mozambican rubies brought to life and hope this partnership will continue to generate awareness for our fair-market coloured gemstones.”

David Chu, CEO of Georg Jensen, said: “We are proud to partner with Gemfields, a brand that is passionately committed to transparency as well as environmental and social responsibility. This collection marks a real turning point in the evolution of Georg Jensen.

“By introducing rubies and emeralds into the collection, we continue to break the boundaries of design while also offering our fine jewellery customer newness and colour.”

Meeling Wong, president of North America and managing director of Jewellery, said: “From the moment we decided to debut precious gemstones into our fine jewellery collection, it was clear that we would turn to Gemfields.

“It's a thrill to be one of the first jewellery houses to have access to their new cache of Mozambican rubies, as well as the Zambian emeralds. The Gemfields partnership, coupled with the infusion of stunning colour, inspired us to take our most iconic pieces to an exciting new level.”

The limited-edition collection will be available exclusively at the Georg Jensen flagship boutiques, said the statement.

Georg Jensen and Gemfields will continue the collaboration in 2015 with the creation of a collection of unique high jewellery pieces featuring Gemfields’ rubies and emeralds of an exceptional size and quality, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
