Chinese group rolls out world's first solar ACs in UAE

DUBAI, April 4, 2015

Gree Electric Appliances said it has introduced the world’s first solar variable refrigerant flow (VRF) air-conditioners in the UAE.

A major appliance manufacturer based in China, Gree said the revolutionary product is aimed at energy generation conservation and positions it as a market leader in the space of solar air-conditioners.

The launch is in line with UAE’s commitment to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the quality of life, said the company which is distributing the air conditioners through NIA Limited.

The solar VRF system is a hybrid solar-electric air conditioner which can work on zero power from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa).

The traditional air conditioner can consume nearly three times more energy as compared to the solar VRF air conditioner causing the consumer to pay a higher electricity bill, said a top official.

"The advent of ‘solar VRF’ air-conditioners with zero electric charge by Gree would be music to people at the forefront of sustainable development," stated Zakir Ahmed, the managing director of NIA Limited, UAE.

"There are three key aspects to this product, Zero wastage, Zero Electric Charge and Zero worry. Considering that renewable energy options are at a premium, the solar VRF system ensures that energy is smartly used and there is absolutely no wastage of energy," he noted.

Ahmed pointed out that the product supported the “Shams Dubai” smart initiative by Dewa which encourages the regulation of solar energy in buildings.

"This product is a testament to our commitment to support Dubai’s Plan 2021 and the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030, which aims to develop sustainable energy projects by increasing targets for renewable energy in the emirate’s energy mix to seven per cent by 2020 and 15 per cent by 2030," he stated.

"The most important thing about this product is that any excess electricity will be exported back to the grid which can earn them Dewa credits," added Ahmed.-TradeArabia News Service
