Dolby unveils new imaging technology

Las Vegas, January 7, 2014

Dolby Laboratories has launched Dolby Vision, a new imaging technology that helps content creators and television manufacturers deliver brightness, colours, and contrast by augmenting ultra HD (UHD) and HD video signals.

The technology, which was unveiled at the ongoing Consumer Electornics Show in Las Vegas, can be seen on the latest UHD and HD televisions from Sharp and TCL Multimedia, said a statement.

The TVs featuring Dolby Vision technology are expected to be available for purchase later this year, it stated.

Hao E, VP of TCL Corportation and CEO of TCL Multimedia, said: “By dramatically enhancing picture quality, Dolby Vision will drive adoption of UHD 4K displays with a winning combination of more and better pixels.”

Roland Vlaicu, senior director, Broadcast Imaging at Dolby, said: “The creative community is thrilled to have an expanded colour palette and the added contrast so that viewers can see details that might have previously gone unnoticed. Meanwhile, TV manufacturers can offer consumers a dramatically improved video experience, regardless of screen size or viewing distance.”

Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) from around the world are exhibiting technology prototype televisions in combination with Dolby Vision on various panel types and screen sizes, said the statement.

Ecosystem partners for movies and television shows are currently expected to include Microsoft Xbox Video, Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, and Vudu, it added. - TradeArabia News Service
