Recycling a toner cartridge, as opposed to throwing it away, reduces the carbon footprint of that cartridge by up to 60 per cent, said a study conducted by Lexmark International, a top provider of printers and accessories.

Lexmark’s printing solutions and services division recently revealed the findings of a Life Cycle Assessment that looked into the environmental impact of discarded toner cartridges.

The company runs free collection programs for its inkjet and toner cartridges.

On Lexmark’s website, one can request a prepaid return bag for inkjet cartridges or print a return label for toner cartridges to send them back to Lexmark for recycling.
Lexmark says that 100 per cent of the empty cartridges it collects are either reused or remanufactured for recycling.

“Lexmark has made it a priority to educate its customers on what steps they can take to implement responsible printing practices, such as printing less and recycling, to reduce the negative impact to the environment,” said Mohammed Addarrat, general manager, Lexmark International Middle East.

Lexmark suggests customers print only what they need, use double-sided prints as possible, and employ digital document processes and paper-less features such as scan-to-email to share documents.

The company also recommends purchasing the highest-yield ink and toner cartridges, which helps reduce waste. – TradeArabia News Service
