Equine products' imports top $272m

The total annual import of equine products and equipments crossed Dh1 billion ($272 million) in 2009, according to Al Fajer Information and Services, organisers of Al Fares, a global equine trade fair, to be held in Dubai.
One of the oldest expos on the equestrian scene, Al Fares features 40 UAE companies and major national pavilions, including Germany.
“International companies have recognised the significance of the equine industry in the GCC. UAE customers are distinguished by great purchasing power that is three times that of their European counterparts on equine products," remarked Satish Khanna, general manager, Al Fajer Information and Services.
"Al Fares is growing year after year because more international companies, especially from Germany, UK, France, Italy, Australia and the USA are foraying into the UAE," he added.
Al Fares is one of the oldest expos on the equestrian scene. The show will be open for three days and continue till 1st December 2010 from 11 am to 7 pm with free entry.
Al Fares will open its doors on November 29 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre (DICEC) with 200 companies from over 20 countries participating in the event.
The show comes at a time when races are increasing, including endurance, flat races and show jumping. Also, there are a variety of private and public clubs in the UAE.
Among international participants, Germany will have one of the largest contingents, which includes leading names like Dickenherr Trucks, Laake USG, Waldhausen, Tropmed, Boekmann.
Khanna pointed out that Al Fares was the only exhibition recognized worldwide as a leading trade platform to do business and capitalize on the booming regional market for equestrian products.
On the UAE participation, Khanna said the UAE will have the single largest contingent with 40 companies taking part including Al Awani, Gulf Rider, Al Sakeb, Lilidale, Asaafinat, Lock Stock, Belhasa Projects, Bonjour, Gulf Drug Est and Al Atheer.
The German horse industry is characterized by versatility. The range of products available covers the range of riding accessories like bits, spurs, saddles and stirrups, horse and vehicle transporters, veterinary diagnostic & pharmaceutical products, riding apparel, farrier supplies, equestrian sports equipment as well as tourney accessories.
"These equestrian products are manufactured on stringent “Made in Germany” standards and are of interest to the amateur as well as the professional rider," Khanna added.
More than 12 companies from Germany are presenting their latest technically advanced products and innovations.
Al Fares Dubai will highlight new products and services for horses and riders. The expo will see horse owners, trainers, chiefs of the equine industry, renowned jockeys, polo professionals and horse lovers from across the world converging on Dubai to participate in the fair.-TradeArabia News Service
